Having the retirement conversation the right way (Seminar 2)

Thursday 1 March 2018

Too often managers shy away from the retirement discussion. For some it’s because they have too much on their plate and don’t set the time aside, but primarily because they fear having the conversation. They worry that by merely mentioning the ‘r’ word (retirement) to a team member they will be accused of age discrimination.

But this is not a reason to avoid it. Did you know that many mature workers want to talk to their manager about their retirement plan? The problem is that like you, they also don’t know how to go about it. What they do know is that they want retirement to be on their terms and with the support of their organisation.

Believe it or not, the most important thing you can do is start the conversation and take a supportive approach.

If you’re keen to avoid a cumbersome conversation that leaves one or both parties feeling awkward, come and join me for the Having the Retirement Conversation the Right Way Seminar on Tuesday 1 March 2018.

In this seminar we will explore:

  • When to start the conversation
  • How to start the conversation
  • How to carry out a strength-based conversation so that everyone steps away feeling positive (yourself included!)

What will you walk away with?

This will be a practical and interactive session. You will take away:

  • Confidence to initiate and undertake a successful retirement transition discussion with your team members
  • Tools, resources and techniques to ensure a strength-based and action focused retirement transition discussion
  • Who to connect retiring team members with to ensure a holistic approach to retirement planning (you don’t have to be the expert, be the connector!)

Date: Thursday 1 March 2018

Time: 6:00 – 7:30pm

Venue: Bright HQ. Suite 3A, 54 Vernon Terrace, Teneriffe, Brisbane.

Tea, coffee and refreshments provided.
